Bio

I am a technology leader and fractional CTO with extensive experience scaling SaaS products and building high-performing engineering teams. Throughout my career, I have served as a co-founder, engineering manager, and technical lead, specializing in revamping technical architectures and driving product growth from early-stage development to international scale. I am known for my hands-on approach to technical strategy, hiring, and building robust, scalable solutions.

Work Experience

Fractional CTO at Various

Aug 2024 – Present

I took over all things technology: * I revamped the technical architecture to make it scalable, got it ready for six-figure customers. * Replaced the service-based developers with engineers fit for the product they were building. * Created the job spec based on the new architecture, created technical assignments from scratch instead of using off-the-shelf LeetCode assignments, and conducted technical interviews (almost 800 in total this year). * Onboarded the engineers, conducted quarterly reviews including code deep-dive.

Software Engineering Manager at Rippling

2023 – 2024

Co-Founder & CEO at Cleverspend

2021 – 2023

SAAS pricing is opaque. As a company, you are spending a lot on your SAAS tools, and you are paying more than you should. We know what is the right price to get a SAAS product, and how to get that price. If saving ~150k per $1mn USD sounds interesting to you, please leave a message at darpan@cleverspend. Our guarantee: It won't cost you anything if you don't save what we promised.

Entrepreneur at Antler

Sep 2020 – Dec 2020

Antler is a global early-stage VC that enables and invests in promising individuals to help them create startups of the future. I am joining their 3rd London cohort (LDN3).

Technical Lead at HubbleHQ

Aug 2019 – Sep 2020

My work includes working a diverse technology stack that uses Django and NodeJS, ReactJS and bash to support our core product and tools like CI integration, docker and automated deployment pipeline. Apart from hands-on development work, my day to day activities also includes mapping product vision into workable technical tasks and leading the team through accomplishing them using agile.

Senior Software Engineer at BrowserStack

Sep 2017 – Jul 2019

BrowserStack is a cloud web and mobile testing platform that enables developers to test their websites and mobile applications across on-demand browsers, operating systems and real mobile devices, without requiring users to install or maintain an internal lab of virtual machines, devices or emulators. I joined this startup to learn how do you scale a SAAS based product from zero to an international scale. I learned about building a scalable, high uptime very complex tech solution. I also learned how software sales, marketing and other moving parts of such a big startup work. I was part of a team that took a product out of beta to 7 digit ARR. My work includes working and stabilizing a relatively new Mobile testing product, end-to-end, which includes working on mobile platform (Android and iOS), back-end and few more proprietary components built with an array of technologies such as Node, Java, Ruby on Rails and Bash to name a few.

CTO at Pensieve

Apr 2016 – May 2017

Pensieve started as a tech start-up exploiting machine learning and NLP & AI capabilities to solve the problem of discovering relevant data from various sources and making sense of it. It is a domain agnostic decision-making platform. Our first focus industry was Legal-tech, where we were helping lawyers find relevant legal data related to their queries. In coarse terms, we were building Google for Lawyers. I took all the decisions related to technology, be it infrastructure, tech stack, security, compliance, hiring or our product's perception in public. Few of tasks I undertook - ● Designed the architecture of the product and leading execution. (I even built our tech infra and first MVP that got us funding singlehandedly before more people joined) ● I took part in funding process, talking to investors and gave them our vision on what we want it to become. ● Hired first few engineering and product management hires, managed contract workers and freelancers. ● For first few months before we could hire more, I did devOps, software engineering, product management, security and scraping data. ● Taking part in fund-raising activities, hiring the team from scratch. ● Took target customer interviews and held discussions to see where we are in terms of product-market fit, ran various experiments too. As a result, we got backing from India's top Law firms and got into Reliance's accelerator. We gathered 1000+ users from the niche domain within a short span in our Beta program.

Lead Software Engineer at ii5 Technologies

Feb 2015 – Feb 2016

ii5 was first of its kind solution to connect property brokers in India. They had big ambitions of becoming the de-facto MLS solution for Indian real estate industry and were heavily backed financially. I joined as the first engineer for their primary product team when the product was still an idea in evolution. I hired the whole team after me and built the product from scratch. It was a very bumpy ride, so it was tough to keep the team's morale high when everyone was overworked, but we pulled this off successfully and launched before time.

Senior Engineer Mobility at Cognizant Technology Solutions

Feb 2014 – Feb 2015

Learned more about building robust, secure solutions, primarily in Android for some very known Banking and Insurance giants.

System Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services

Nov 2010 – Jan 2014

Joined as a software engineer and worked with some very big MNCs building solutions for them. I was very curious about business analysis and development activities. So I got a chance to work on some very big RFPs and a very ambitious project.
