Building Payroll products in the UK and U.S. which are AI native in its experience and build. Scaling the team, business and HiBob platform to help in its growth story to now include the U.S.
Working as a General Manager / Product Director / Principal IC to advise, build and launch new businesses or enhance existing products to become world class. I work across the org from C-suite to PMs, Engineers and Talent to build not only products but whole groups and segments. I'm a subject matter expert on - AI initiatives specifically in the payroll, payments and Account space. I have extensive experience in both 'rules-based' AI development in relation to payroll and Personal taxes and using LLM's with forced constraints to ensure integrity of the agentic AI's advice to the user. UK and European Payments related initiatives. I was a head of product at TrueLayer (open banking), Santander Payments and was a C-suite member for Rippling's UK payments group. I worked with the FCA directly whilst at Santander and Rippling (AIS / PIS / E-money, UK and EU Payments) licences. Payroll, HRIS, BenAdmin, HR tech, Accounting and Fintech related initiatives. I have built these products from the ground up in the UK, Ireland France Germany (including ITSG certification).
I joined Rippling as a Product Lead (equivalent to Product Director) to fix, build and scale the UK, IE & Europe to become a best in class all in one offering for our enterprise customers in Europe. During my tenure, my mission was to build and scale a localised native payroll, payments, HRIS and TimeOff offering at record speed in the UK, Ireland, Germany (including ITSG certification), France, Australia, Spain, Holland and Portugal I manage a team of 6 Product Leads who are all owners of our European growth countries and act as Country General Managers. My duties include- Building a world class localised, compliant, native Product offering for our customers who are Hiring, Onboarding, Off Boarding, Payroll, Time Off, Payments, EOR employees and contractors in the UK and Ireland. Hiring, developing and coaching a team of Senior Product Leads (Heads of Products) in Europe. Being the UK & IE expert on all things related to Payroll, HRIS, Taxes, Filing, BenAdmin and Payments. Quarterly planning and Strategy of the Rippling financial product ecosystem in Europe. In the Small business and Enterprise domain. From building onboarding, implementation to self serve tools. I built instant onboarding (no parallel runs or interventions) for Payroll and HRIS in the UK, IE and France at Rippling. NED, I'm a chartered Accountant (FCCA) and tech founder (MaxTax) who has worked in close proximity with the UK regulator FCA through my roles at Santander bank and Rippling.
I joined Koinly as an interim VP of product. My remit at Koinly covered - Create an Open Finance Group with our 700+ API integrations with wallets, tokens and exchanges to pull data and compute taxes. Best consumer app for traders and businesses - Portfolio view and dashboards which allow users to track their crypto assets. A compliant and delightful offering- Automatic calculations based on gains, losses and accounting methods in all large crypto markets globally.
I helped create the Open Banking Expansion (OBX) group at TrueLayer. Our mission is to (1) Build delightful OB data & payments experiences for end users and clients (2) Expand OB payments & data services across the world.
We did this by hiring and developing product squads made up of product managers (13), engineers (30), analysts and bank relationship managers who were optimising for individual countries. This has resulted in TrueLayer expanding to new markets faster than ever whilst becoming one one the largest OB TPPs in the world. Achievements- Built a strategy and rapidly expanded in to 10+ markets with 90%+ coverage. Helped grow monthly payment volume 400 percent and monthly payment value 800 percent. Grew from a few million to processing billions in payments and doubled our base. Achieved 70% share of checkout vs cards with merchants in the fintech space. Revamped the hiring process for Product managers. I also developed TrueLayers career and growth framework for all PMs and built an APM (entry level PMs) programme for TrueLayer which was the first of it's kind. 2-3x growth in conversion rates in our key markets across Europe. Quite comfortably the highest converting OB provider in Europe due to our localised focused obsession with building delightful UX flows with banks and our clients.
I led a team of product squads (9 product managers, 7 designers and 36 devs) based in the UK, Spain and U.S to help people improve their financial lives in the newly created consumer payments segment. This player / coach role allowed me to research, design and build products whilst also enabling me to coach and develop product managers and designers in my team and across Santander. I set the product strategy and vision for PagoNxt payments and successfully built 2 businesses during my tenure. My teams role is to deeply understand different existing and future payment capabilities (LATAM & Europe) user pain points, compliance related risks and use this knowledge to solve unmet needs for customers with rapid experiments, research and beautiful designs. Achievements- ● We built 2 ventures from scratch based on customer problems, bank data and opportunities as a payments lab and are now focusing on growing these ventures in to businesses within Santander. We also killed 90% of our concepts. ● To date we have attracted $6m of seed funding from Santander Group and Mastercard for our ventures in the lab
Acquired by a national UK accounting firm. As a previous head of product at Intuit (the makers of QuickBooks, TurboTax and QuickBooks Self-employed) I've always wanted to tackle the issue of anxiety and rip off pricing related to tax filing whilst maximising deductions digitally in the UK. I co-founded MaxTax with my wife, a chartered accountant too. Maxtax is a boot strapped start-up built initially on the facebook messenger rail (it's the quickest and cheapest way to get my MVP out) which has the logic and intelligence of a CTA accountant with 20yrs tax knowledge. It's rules based AI which is presented as a conversation, allows customers to answer questions and provide answers and files their self-assessment directly with HMRC. MaxTax is still in beta and is already a profitable business and is comparable to the size of a mid-size accounting firm, based on the number of customers and tax returns filed annually. Next steps for MaxTax is to build native and apply for an open banking licence to get taxes done without a customer ever touching their phone.
I helped identify and solve problems faced by the worlds largest enterprises across multiple industries within Deloitte's Technology arm. Deloitte has insights in to the problems many large companies face via consulting engagements. My teams role was to identify problems which were worthwhile solving and then build solutions for them. We built high revenue generating products for the likes of Coca Cola, Sage, McLaren racing and others. As a Product lead, my role is to inspire, manage and coach the product managers of the future for Deloitte whilst developing a customer first mindset in the business. I developed an environment that enables product, marketing, leadership, devs, sales & support work in sync. Thumbnail for McLaren Deloitte – an introduction to our alliance
